The theme for the 2019 congress is COST of critical care: helping you to Customise and Optimise care, so your patients Survive and Thrive. To address this, we have invited an exciting faculty of highly-acclaimed international speakers from across the globe; as well as local dynamic and entertaining speakers from across South Africa.

We look forward to hosting you during 5 days of festivities in the Mother City. This event is not to be missed!

Dr Jenna Piercy
Chairperson

Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the SASPEN Organising Committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our 5th joint congress with the CCSSA. This year we are very excited to welcome an outstanding international and local faculty, all of whom are experts in the field of critical care nutrition and who will bring us up to date with the latest developments and trends in feeding the critically ill. Furthermore, all members of the multidisciplinary team are invited to attend our exciting range of pre-congress nutrition workshops, ranging from two live ESPEN LLL courses, as well as practical workshops on enteral and parenteral nutrition. This year we also offer a basic introductory course on organ support aimed at all allied health care professionals interested in improving their knowledge and practical insight regarding various organ support modalities in the ICU.

We look forward to seeing you in Cape Town for an exciting 5 days of critical care discussions, research updates and networking opportunities as we continue our mission to promote optimal clinical nutrition practices in South Africa.

Warmest regards,

Lizl Veldsman
SASPEN President (2017 – 2019)
